SUNOTEC Supports Energy Storage Summit 2024 and Inaugurates Groundbreaking Solaris Hybrid Park in Bulgaria

Sofia, Bulgaria – October 2024 – SUNOTEC recently played a key role in two significant events in Bulgaria's renewable energy sector. The company supported the Energy Storage Summit Europe 2024, hosted in Sofia, where over 500 industry leaders and stakeholders gathered to discuss the latest innovations in energy storage. SUNOTEC also officially inaugurated the Solaris Hybrid Park, an ambitious hybrid photovoltaic (PV) development near Pernik, Bulgaria, providing clean energy to over 10,000 households.

The Energy Storage Summit, held at the Sofia Conference Centre, offered valuable insights into the latest energy storage policies, standards, and technologies. SUNOTEC CEO Bernhard Suchland took the stage as a key speaker, highlighting the company's long-standing partnership with Huawei. Suchland focused on the success of their collaboration, specifically the completion of the Solaris Park, which features a cutting-edge 61 MWh battery storage facility.

A highlight of the summit was the site visit to Solaris Park—a project transforming a former landfill into a green energy hub. Attendees were given a firsthand look at the 32 MWp PV plant, showcasing its significant environmental impact and demonstrating how hybrid energy systems can play a crucial role in balancing peak electricity demand.

"Solaris Park is a testament to innovation, environmental stewardship, and future-focused energy solutions," said Bernhard Suchland. "Our collaboration with Huawei has enabled us to bring Bulgaria one step closer to a sustainable energy future."

Official Launch of Solaris Park by SUNOTEC

On September 24, 2024, SUNOTEC and Eurohold officially inaugurated the Solaris Hybrid Park, independent of the Energy Storage Summit. This 32 MWp photovoltaic plant, located on an old industrial landfill near Pernik, is paired with a state-of-the-art 61 MWh energy storage system from Huawei. The facility is expected to supply clean energy to more than 10,000 households and also significantly reduce harmful emissions by 15,847 tons per year.

Visitors at Solaris Park Inauguration

Solaris Park marks a pivotal moment in Bulgaria's renewable energy landscape, developed on a challenging terrain over just five months. "When we first came to this location, it looked like a lunar landscape," said Kaloyan Velichkov, CEO and Founder of SUNOTEC. "Giving a new life to an otherwise unusable land, was one of the most appealing aspects of this project. It also marks our advent into energy storage investment and development, which will become a huge part of our work in the future. The potential for hybrid PV developments in Bulgaria is enormous, and SUNOTEC is excited to be at the forefront."

SUNOTEC is currently developing 23 additional projects, with a total of 600 MW of solar capacity and 1,000 MWh of storage planned.

Strategic Partnership and Future Vision

The Solaris Park project exemplifies SUNOTEC's commitment to advancing Bulgaria's green energy future through innovative hybrid developments. Collaborating with key technology providers, SUNOTEC is helping to position the country as a leader in energy storage across Europe.

“We are not waiting for state-level recovery plans but are taking action ourselves,” said Kiril Boshov, a representative of Eurohold. “Energy waits for no one, and projects like Solaris Park ensure that we are ready for the future.”
